Here at DMVision, we believe local news can be just as engaging as the alternative. Our team pushes the boundaries of traditional journalism by utilizing different forms of media to immerse our readers in the story. We care about the stories we tell, and we want you too as well. With every subject we cover, whether it be social advocacy issues to environmental trends in the DMV area, we strive to go beyond just telling you about it. Through the use of podcasts, videos, and more – our collective of storytellers and content creators tell the stories you want to hear in a way that is fair, informative, and highly entertaining.

Almaz Abedje

As a proud DMV native, Almaz Abedje has always been passionate about covering news and local issues, especially pertaining to marginalized communities. Her coursework reflects this passion in addition to her interest in print, online and multimedia journalism. She has interned with several news organizations in the D.C. area, including the Voice of America, and abroad, specifically in London where she studied for a semester.

Elizabeth Bolaji

Born to Nigerian parents, Lizz was born in a small town in Ohio, but grew up in Colleyville, TX. She came to D.C. to pursue her passion for journalism and has enjoyed her last 3 years learning and building upon her skills. When she's not editing videos, Lizz can be found watching movies, reading, or grabbing food with friends.

Ariel Anza

Ariel Anza realized she wanted to be a journalist annoying her family. While asking her usual 20 questions about any topic she didn't understand, her brother finally turned to her and said, "You like asking questions so much, why don't you just become a journalist?" Presently, Anza is applying to graduate school for a master's in journalism. She is interested in writing about technology and human rights issues.

Shruti Bramadesam

Originally hailing from Bloomfield Hills, Mich. (#GoBlue), Shruti moved to D.C. to pursue her passion for journalism and marketing. When she's not writing, you can find her hunting for the best latte in town, boxing at her local gym or petting dogs on the street.

Lizzy Becherano

Lizzy Becherano grew up with a love for storytelling and sports, but it wasn't until college that she decided to merge her two passions. As an immigrant from Mexico living in D.C., Lizzy offers a unique perspective on sports journalism. She has a certain fascination with stories that happen beyond the pitch and after the clock. Lizzy currently works as SB Nation's D.C. United reporter, writing from the press box and interviewing players on the latest scoops.

Paige Childs

Paige Childs, a D.C.-based aspiring visual storyteller, has always been perplexed by language's complexity and its ability to convey meaning. After being exposed to video, she became intrigued by the opportunities presented by the marriage of language and visuals. In the projects she has created in association with DMVision, she explores the experiences of vulnerable populations in the DMV area, including homelessness, underserved young women, and domestic workers via an array of storytelling mediums.

Christina

Originally from Newtown, Conn., Christina DeBartolomeo first came to D.C. to further her passion for journalism at GW. After taking several business courses, she found a love for marketing, which she hopes to pursue after she graduates in May. When she isn't studying, you can find Christina rewatching "Friends" episodes, snacking on way too many dark chocolate peanut butter cups from Trader Joe's and hanging out with friends and family.

Andrew Demeter

Andrew Demeter has always been passionate about telling stories through video. At 8 years old, his dad handed him a video camera one holiday and told him to go interview his relatives. He was mesmerized. Andrew started filming everything from comedy skits with friends to technology reviews. When he was 18, Andrew produced a short film about why students go to college that won second place in a national contest hosted by C-SPAN. He's interviewed a wide range of newsmakers such as Nancy Pelosi, Fran Drescher and even the Westboro Baptist Church.

Morgan Denhart

Born and raised in Key West, Fla., Morgan Denhart moved to D.C. for a change of pace from the slow island life. She began her interest in journalism as a toddler with home movies featuring her reporting the news next to Peter Jennings. Now, Morgan prefers to be behind the camera, producing and editing stories that matter.

Kate Drapkin

Kate Drapkin has had a passion for stories and storytelling since she was young. She is using her journalism background to advocate for others who may not be capable of doing so themselves. She hopes to shine a light on various injustices in our world and hopefully make D.C. a better place one story at a time.

Shayna Greene

Shayna Greene is a senior studying journalism and is graduating in December 2019. She is currently working at Foreign Policy Magazine as an editorial intern. She has also worked at Newsday and The Solidarity Center. In the past semester, she has contributed to stories for The Washington Post and Foreign Policy. Shayna aspires to be a foreign correspondent or investigative reporter.

Jacob Folvag

Jacob Folvag is a 27-year-old Super Senior working on his BA in Journalism in the heart of Washington D.C. His hobbies include taking photos, playing guitar, cooking vegetarian delights and drinking hard seltzers on the couch.

Lindsay Wigo

Lindsay Wigo is a journalist and videographer covering everything from arts and entertainment to feature stories to D.C. news. She is currently a video intern with the Daily Caller News Foundation and has her first book coming out in December 2019.

Danielle Grace

Dani Grace is an aspiring journalist and avid hockey fan from Orange County, Calif. She is a voracious reader hooked on sustainability, cooking and singing. Dani serves as a senior news editor for The GW Hatchet and is a freelance writer for EngagedMedia Inc. If she isn't writing or singing, she is aggressively quoting her favorite sitcoms like "New Girl," "Schitt's Creek" or "Community."

Kelly Hooper

Kelly Hooper fell in love with journalism while attending an arts and media high school in New Jersey. Since coming to D.C. to study journalism, she has found her passion in telling local stories and elevating the voices of disenfranchised populations. Kelly has co-authored a Washington Post investigative story, interned with a social media marketing company and is currently the copy editor for The GW Hatchet. She hopes to pursue local storytelling after she graduates in December.

Simone Hunter-Hobson

Simone Hunter - Hobson, a young aspiring attorney, finds the connection between law and media compelling and fascinating. Throughout her undergraduate career, she has dedicated her journalistic work to telling stories about the lives of black people in the U.S. She will be attending law school in the fall of 2020.

Monica Mercuri

Monica Mercuri is a senior studying journalism with experience covering entertainment, music and hard news stories. This past summer, Monica was an editorial intern and reporter for Forbes Magazine, after starting as a contributor for the website. Monica also previously interned for Billboard Magazine, where she contributed more than 150 articles relating to music, entertainment and music industry news. Monica enjoyed covering social justice and environmental issues in The District.

Victoria Middleton

Writer and content-creator Victoria Middleton has had a passion for storytelling since she was a girl growing up in Bethany Beach, Del. She is passionate about art, culture and social justice, particularly in issues relating to gender and sexuality. She has been the music director at WRGW District Radio for more than two years, is the assistant editor at Planet Forward and is the lead astrology writer at Camp Thirlby. In her free time, she loves thrift shopping, going to the movies and badly dancing to good music.

Mary Anne Porto

Mary Anne Porto wanted to be a journalist since The Denver Post let her be a kid reporter in third grade (she reviewed Gameboy games and went to the "Horton Hears a Who" movie premiere for the paper). Nowadays, Mary Anne hopes to pair her passions for food and writing to cover all the intersections of the industry: restaurants and recipes, on one level, but also agriculture, food access and labor rights. In addition to her writing and video production work, Mary Anne is a freelance illustrator, most recently for the newsletter Girls’ Night In.

Marisa Sinatra

Marisa Sinatra knew she wanted to study journalism when she realized it was a way for her to turn her passion for storytelling into a career. Originally from just outside Philadelphia, she has always viewed herself as a creative person and hopes to always bring creativity into her work. She hopes to shine light on topics that are not commonly addressed in the news and help to promote change through her stories.

Guinevere Thomas

Guinevere is a filmmaker in her fourth and final year at the George Washington University in the School of Media and Public Affairs. As a black woman in America, Guinevere feels as though she floats through a liminal space in society. Through filmmaking, she wants to further explore this double consciousness and the nuanced narrative of the black form in America.

Rafael Javier 

Hernández Sanchez

Born and raised in Madrid, Spain, Rafa studied political science and journalism in Washington D.C. He is currently working at the Middle East Institute and will pursue a doctorate in African Studies after graduating in December 2019.
